Since yesterday, I’ve been coming across this on term everywhere, including social media, the year of the tiger. Just like me, many of you also must have come across it and I’m sure it has left you wondering what this is all about, hai na? In order to clear your confusion, I did a little bit of reason and found out all about the year of the tiger and what it means. To begin with, this has a lot to do with the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year. Tuesday, February 1 was celebrated as the Lunar New Year or the Chinese New Year. What Is Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year?

The Chinese New Year is celebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice. Traditionally it marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The Lunar New Year festivities are celebrated by the Chinese as well as other East and Southeast Asian cultures. It is also commonly known as the Spring Festival.

How Is The Chinese New Year Celebrated?

The Lunar New Year or the Chinese New Year celebration and festivities begin on New Year’s Eve. The Spring festival often lasts for up to 15 days and includes several customs like honouring deities and ancestors, family dinners and decorations among other things. Traditionally, all families clean their homes to welcome good luck and get rid of bad luck. The spring festival decorations include a lot of red paper-cuts and couplets and families also light firecrackers and gift each other money in red coloured envelopes.

What Is The Year Of Tiger?

As per the Chinese Zodiac, 2022 is the year of the Tiger. This Chinese New Year marks the end of the year of the Ox (2021) and marks the beginning of the year of the Tiger. The Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese Zodiac which is a classification based on the lunar calendar that assigns animals and elements (water, fire, earth and metal) to each year and repeats in a twelve-year cycle. This year has been assigned the animal Tiger and the element water. This means that 2022 is the year of the water tiger.

What Does The Year Of Tiger Mean?

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2020 was the year of the Rat which means that it was simply about surviving and getting through the year. The year 2021 was the year of the Ox which means that it was about holding on and accepting the new reality of our lives. But 2022 is the year of the Tiger which means that it is about taking risks and making changes in our lives. Experts suggest that this year is about adventures and is full of energy.

One can expect things and life situations to change this year. While this may be good for some, it may also be bad for others. So, brace yourselves.
