A Hindu Priest Openly Threatens To Kidnap And Rape Muslim Women In The Presence Of Police. WTF Is Happening?
In yet another news, we have a Hindu priest who was openly threatening to kidnap and rape Muslim women while addressing a gathering outside a mosque in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. The video of the priest’s hate speech was uploaded on the internet and within a few hours, the video went viral. Six days after the hate speech went viral, the UP police have started investigating the video and are trying to get to the bottom of the incident.
The video wherein the Hindu priest was threatening to kidnap and rape Muslim women in the presence of police was shared by Mohammed Zubair – co-founder of fact-check website AltNews – on April 2. In the video, the priest in the saffron-coloured robes is the local mahant of a small town called Khairabad who is addressing a gathering outside a mosque from his jeep. Reportedly, a man wearing a police uniform can also be seen hanging around in the background.

In the video that went viral, the priest is seen making communal and provocative comments at the crowd and they further cheer him on by shouting “Jai Shri Ram”. The mahant allegedly goes on to say that if any Muslim harasses any girl then he will kidnap Muslim women and rape them in front of everyone. Even his threat was loudly supported by the crowd.

As per NDTV, for the first 5 days, the police took absolutely no action. In fact, people on Twitter have also started questioning the police when they saw three policemen in the same jeep as the priest as he was making rape threats. People have also flagged the communal and provocative comments to the UN human rights body and National Commission for Women and are asking them to intervene in the matter

After the outrage by people on social media, the Sitapur police replied to the tweet saying that a senior officer is investigating the matter and that action will be taken after they have all the facts. Allegedly the National Commission for Women released a statement on the matter and is seeking the priest’s arrest. Their statement read, “The Police should not be a mute spectator in such incidents and appropriate measures must be taken by them to curb people from using such outrageous language for women.”
