Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur Breaks Mithali Raj’s Record To Become India’s Number One Run Getter In Women’s T20Is

Indian women are breaking records left, right, and center – whether it is sports or modelling. In fact, let’s talk about cricket and the records that players of the Indian women’s cricket team are breaking. Very recently, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team became India’s number one run getter in the women’s T20Is matches. Yep, I’m talking about the one and only Harmanpreet Kaur who broke Mithali Raj’s record and came out on the top.

On June 25, Saturday, Harmanpreet Kaur made history as she broke Mithali Raj’s record and became India’s leading run getter in the women’s T20Is. The right-handed batter achieved this milestone during her unbeaten 31-run innings against Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Dambulla.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who is from Moga, now has 2372 runs to her name from 111 innings of 123 matches that she has played in the shortest format of the game – T20Is. The record was previously held by Indian cricketer Mithali Raj who recently announced her retirement from all formats of cricket. Mithali Raj led the score chare with 2364 runs in 84 innings of 89 matches. Mithali’s decision to retire from T20Is came in 2019 after India’s defeat in the semifinals of the 2018 T20 World Cup

As per reports, after Mithali Raj, it is 33-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur who is leading the chart. Following Mithali Raj who is now in the second position, is none other than India’s opening batter Smriti Mandhana who is in the third position with 2011 runs to her name from 26 matches. And following her, is Jemimah Rodrigues, the youngster who won the Player of the Match award in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. She has scored 1094 runs from 52 matches.

Seeing India’s ongoing series against Sri Lanka as a whole, it is safe to say that the women’s cricket team have sealed the contest by winning the first two T20Is.
