Delhi Woman Gang-Raped In A Moving Autorickshaw In UP’s Aligarh In Broad Daylight. Can Women Ever Feel Safe?
The Nirbhaya rape case sent shock waves throughout the country after it made headlines. The brutality of the gang rape sent shivers down every woman’s backbone and nearly every man was left feeling scared for the women. One would think that after looking at such a heinous crime and punishment given to the rapists, the crime would reduce but if anything we’ve just seen more and more cases of rapes in moving vehicles. And it looks like there may be no end to the crimes against women in India as the criminals have stopped fearing the law. In another case of rape in a moving vehicle, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district was allegedly gang-raped in an autorickshaw by the driver and his accomplices.
In yet another shocking rape case, a woman who came to UP’s Aligarh from Delhi via bus was gang-raped by the autorickshaw driver whose auto she had hired from the Gandhi Park bus stand. According to media reports, when the woman got into the auto, there were three other people in it. She alleged that after one of the passengers got off the autorickshaw on the way, the driver and the other two passengers gang-raped her and then looted Rs 20,000 cash that she had in her purse. After the crime, the accused men dumped her in the Nanau area of Aligarh. The incident reportedly took place around 1 pm on April 14.

The victim then reported the crime to the police after which the police officials got the victim admitted to a hospital and filed an FIR under relevant sections for rape and loot. The woman also alleged that she was beaten by the accused when she tried to resist the crime. She is a native of Aligarh’s Akbarabad area but currently resides in Delhi with her husband and children. Aligarh Police shared that a case has been filed against the autorickshaw driver and two others and the police are scanning the CCTV footage to identify the accused.

It’s shocking that a heinous crime like gang-rape took place in a rather open vehicle like an autorickshaw in broad daylight. When will these crimes really stop? When will women be allowed to feel safe in a public place in a public vehicle?
