Paparazzi Was Always Instrusive, But What Is With The Entitlement Now?
If you follow paparazzi accounts on Instagram, you will be quite aware of the kind of content they post on it. From a celebrity’s airport look to them coming out of restaurants and going for their gym sessions, the paparazzi is covering it all. Well, this adds to the celebrities’ fame too, and therefore I can say that their relationship goes hand in hand. But there are some events that happened in the past days which make me feel that now the paps are taking this two-way relation in a rather entitled way. The dialogues about paps being intrusive are not ending any time soon and now paparazzi’s entitled behaviour has added an even more concerning angle to the debate.
This morning a clash between Taapsee Pannu and the paparazzi made headlines. In fact, such news spreads like a wildfire. So for the unversed here, the clash happened because the paparazzi complained about Taapsee being late to an event. In response to this, the actress said that she presented herself at the time she was asked to. In the video, Taapsee very respectfully put forth her side of the story, but most probably the paps were not that calm. It is true that in such events, it’s the management that decides on the times around which the celebs have to make the appearance and clearly Taapsee was making the same point. But the authority with which the paps questioned her for arriving late was a clear indication of their entitled behaviour.

The second incident that reminded me of the paparazzi’s entitlement was when a popular pap called out Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor for not organising a feast for the media on the occasion of their marriage. The paparazzi expressed their disappointment in the couple by saying that they were capable enough to throw a celebration in a five-star hotel rather than their own home. I mean it just makes me question a WHY? Why are Btown celebs expected to do everything on a grand and lavish scale which includes the presence of flashy lights and clicks? Till now, this remains to be the most evident case of a paparazzi’s entitled behaviour. In this incident, they went very vocal about their opinions on a celebrity’s obligation to keep the paps happy and well, inclusive in whatever they do.
Another case that still remains afresh in my mind, is the paps behaviour with Rhea Chakraborty. Okay, so there’s a race for exclusives that happens among paps for sure because well whose photos come first is very important. However, in this race, the media somewhere takes a celebrity for granted to forget about their limitations with them. I am sure you remember the kind of media crowd that surrounded Rhea to get her pictures when she was visiting the court for the SSR trials. The paps legit pushed the camera into her face and the police struggled to manage the whole situation. Paps in the rush to get her face, expression, and dress thought that it is absolutely not wrong to intimidate her with cameras because well it’s their job and the harsh reality of a celebs life. No, it’s sheer entitlement!

The point being made is that why are paparazzi suddenly trying to gain control over what a celebrity should or should not do, and how should they behave? Amidst this, they have also taken the liberty of being vocal about their demands with the celebrities either through words or with their action. A celebrity needs a pap and vice-versa but the professionalism is somewhere blurring out from the latter’s end. They were always intrusive in a celebs life, but now such authoritative behaviour over them is concerning.
