Women In Brazil Protest Against Racism, Gender Violence And Lack of Opportunities. It’s 2022 And Women Still Have To Fight For Basic Rights!

Women have been deprived of basic and fundamental rights for far too long and women of colour have had it worse. Be it in terms of employment, educational opportunities, gender violence and several other gender-based issues, women of colour have had to face discrimination in all spheres of life. In Brazil, currently, women of colour have taken to the streets to protest against these injustices and demand equality and justice. Women in huge crowds are protesting against the injustices that are happening to them.

In the pictures and videos that have surfaced on social media, women are seen dressed in traditional and cultural outfits to protest. From shouting slogans to organising marches, and holding banners with huge slogans written on them, women are not leaving any stone unturned to voice their dissent against the government.

Women have also been protesting against the prevalent racism that they have been facing in Brazil. Women were shouting slogans against Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro during the protests. Traditional performances were also done by women in the rally. Easily, thousands of women were on the Brazilian streets to demand equality and ask for their basic rights.

What is really shocking is that hardly any international publications have covered this issue. There needs to be an emphasis on these women and their plight needs to be highlighted. It is 2022 and is shocking to see women fight for their basic rights.
