Woman From Brazil Delivers Twins. But Wait, They Are From Two Different Fathers!

Many times we come across rare cases in the field of medicine, but some of these incidents are really hard to digest. Such cases absolutely go against the natural workings of the human body, and yes maybe, therefore, they are quickly categorised as the “rare case”. And a similar incident of this nature has occurred in Mineiros, Brazil. A woman gave birth to two cute twins but the twist was that both the babies had two different biological fathers. Well, not even in our wildest imaginations would have this thought run across our minds, but here it is happening with someone in reality.

This case was reported from Brazil where a 19-year-old woman was surprising shocked on knowing that the father of her two children was not the same. The girl’s doctor has termed this occurrence as heteroparental superfecundation which is an extremely rare case and only 20 such cases have been reported worldwide. This incident came to light after a paternity test was carried out on the babies. Apparently, the woman also had sex with the two men on the same day. As per the medical explanation of this, the woman’s doctor, Tulio Jorge Franco said that when two eggs of a woman get fertilised by two different men, it results in the case of heteroparental superfecundation. He further explained that these babies grow in two different placentas but take the mother’s genetics, as per the news. Even the doctor was shocked to come across a case like this which happens once in the millionth time.

This was definitely shocking news for us too. However, some further research on this showed us that there was a similar case reported in the United States too in the year 2009.
