Bizarre! UP Bride Calls Off Wedding After Finding Out The Groom Couldn’t See Without His Spectacles
All of us have some kind of criteria that we want in our spouses. For instance, I want someone who is highly educated, has a lucrative career, a stable background and a good sense of humour. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for and I won’t settle, no should have to. Clearly, this bride in UP agrees with me. She called her wedding off after it was proved that her to-be groom could not read without his glasses on. I don’t see why his spectacles bothered her so much that she saw no other option but to cancel their wedding but we’re glad she stood up for herself.
This bizarre incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya. The bride’s father, Arjun Singh arranged for her to be married to Shivam. Reportedly, they chose Shivam because he was well-educated. A date for their wedding was fixed and everyone started the preparations. The bride’s family also gifted Shivam a motorcycle before the wedding as “shagun”.
Now, we all know that no Indian wedding is without its drama but what happened here was a whole new level. On the wedding day, while Shivam got on the horse and his baraat was in procession, the bride’s family noticed that he had not once taken off his spectacles. This struck them as suspicious and they started questioning the strength of his eyesight. The bride and her family decided to test the groom before they got married. They gave me a Hindi newspaper and asked him to read from it without his spectacles. When he failed to do so and it was revealed that he could not see without his spectacles, the bride called off the wedding. She was not agreeable to marry a man with such poor eyesight.

Not only did the bride and her family walk out on the marriage, but they also filed a police complaint against the groom and his family. They demanded that the groom return the cash and the motorcycle that was given to him as dowry and also asked his family to return all the money that they had put into the wedding.
I am all for women standing up for themselves and going after exactly what they want, but is bad eyesight the worst thing in the world? Maybe the bride had her reasons or maybe she was looking for a reason to get out of this marriage. We’ll never know. This is one of the most absurd wedding stories I’ve heard in a long time.
