Twitter Furious With SC Judge For Calling Bilkis Bano Case ‘Merely Horrific’
In the last couple of days, a specific order shook the entire country to its core. Yes, I’m talking about the Bilkis Bano case where 11 convicted rapists were allowed to walk free on the basis of remission. Their release has led people to question the justice system and demand answers as to why were they released and welcomed with garlands and open arms in society when they were the one’s ruined a woman’s life forever. Needless to say, a lot of people filed pleas and petitions in the Supreme Court that challenged the release of these 11 men. As of now, the bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana is hearing one of the petitions that challenged the release under Gujarat state’s remission policy. However, while people were happy about the petition being heard it is a statement by one of the Supreme Court judges that has people on the internet furious.
Today, on August 25, the Supreme Court of India is hearing a petition challenging the premature release of 11 men who were accused of gang-raping Bilkis Bano and killing half of her family, including her daughter. The bench hearing the petition consists of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice Vikram Nath. And the petition was filed by CPI (M) MP Subhasini Ali, journalist Revati Laul, and Prof. Roop Rekha Verma.

After listening to the horrific incident that involved the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of her family, Justice Rastogi said that these 11 men were convicted for all the crimes that they have committed and the question was whether they are justified in considering remission.
Justice Rastogi : Merely because the act was horrifc, is that sufficient to say remission is wrong?#BilkisBano #SupremeCourt #CJIRamana

Justice Ajay Rastogi of the Supreme Court further commented on the Bilkis Bano gang rape and murder case and questioned, ‘Merely because the act was horrific, is that sufficient to say remission is wrong?’ Needless to say, this statement did not sit well with people and they did not shy away from showing their anger on Twitter. " Merely the act was Horrific " this is what a judge of SC says and you expect justice to be done to Victims. Kuch bacha hai abhi bhi or you still have full confidence in the judiciary?

I just want to know what situation will necessitate no remission. This was as gruesome a crime as it can be. Very disappointing view.

Yes. And if you had iota of decency, you'd treat it like precedent in Nirbhaya case. But then, that's not what matters here does it ?

How insensitive of Justice Rastogi to say that: merely because the act was horrific, is that sufficient to say remission is wrong? What kind of justice can one expect? #BilkisBano #SupremeCourt #CJIRamana

Merely if the act was horrific then why jailed those sanskari's earlier ??
