But a shocking piece of crime news has been highlighted in Johannesburg, South Africa, which choked us to the core. More than 80 men have allegedly gang-raped eight women and robbed the crew of a video production team. The men have been arrested and also have appeared in court.
As per a report by The Guardian, more than 80 men have been suspected of gang-raping eight women. They were arrested from an abandoned mining site after they committed the rapes and robbed the team. The victims were shooting for a music video at an abandoned mining site and that is when they were attacked by the men. These men had blankets wrapped around themselves as well. It was a crew of 22 people of which 12 were women and 10 were men.
The perpetrators are illegal miners and are known as zama-zamas. The majority of these miners are foreigners This large group of miners is also blamed for the sharp spike in the crime rate in the neighbouring area. When the men attacked the video production crew, they asked everyone to lie down while they went ahead to rape the women. After that, they fled from the crime scene and also stole everyone’s personal belongings. They also stole the video shooting equipment of the crew.

Bheki Cele. the national minister of police said that the DNA samples from the raped women will help find the perpetrators. The gang is expected to face charges on the grounds of illegal mining and illegal immigration. Outside the Krugersdorp magistrates court, over 300 people gathered to protest against the rapes. This news has enraged people after the neighbouring community’s safety was hampered by this gang.
