Delhi Air Hostess Gets Raped By Political Party Member, Locks Him In A Room While Calling For Help
I remember that when I was a teen, there was a campaign talking about women learning self-defence to protect themselves in worst-case scenarios. I must have been around 16-17 and wondered why women were expected to learn ways to protect themselves. Like, was the world that bad? However, as I grew I realised that the world was less than kind to women and we aren’t particularly safe anywhere, be it with family or friends. A prime example of this bitter truth is this air hostess who was raped by an acquaintance of hers.
Police claim that an acquaintance of an air hostess raped her at her house in south Delhi’s Mehrauli neighbourhood. Harjeet Yadav, a citizen of Khanpur, is the block president for a local political party. They claimed he had been taken into custody. A PCR call regarding rape was received at Mehrauli police station, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Choudhary. The woman informed the responding police that she had been raped at her home by Harjeet Yadav, who she had known for the previous 1.5 months. The 30-year-old woman allegedly managed to lock the accused person in a room while dialling 112.

The Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to offend the modesty of a woman), and 377 (unnatural offences) have all been invoked based on her testimony, he said. I don’t get why is it that men feel like they have this entitlement over women. Recently I read the news of a woman being murdered by her employers because she refused to do them sexual favours. So I don’t get why men think they have the right over women’s bodies and choices. How is this fair in any capacity? And why does this entitlement exist?
