Ahmedabad Woman Beaten By Husband, In-Laws For Taking Afternoon Naps And Birthing Daughter. TF Is Wrong With People?
I feel like every day we are losing touch with our humanity. For some reason, people are unable to empathize with one another anymore. Due to this, cases of abuse and exploitation are now more prevalent than ever. Somehow humans are losing their capacity to love and understand one another. Cases of abuse, especially against women have been increasing, especially during the lockdown. An exemplary example of this can be seen in the case of this Ahmedabad woman being beaten up by her in-laws and husband for taking afternoon post-lunch naps.
In the Shahibaugh area of Ahmedabad, another case of domestic violence has been reported as a 24-year-old woman filed a complaint against her in-laws and husband for hitting her for taking afternoon naps after lunch. “From the beginning, they used to object to me taking a siesta. As I used to wake up early in the morning, I could not keep myself awake in the afternoons,” the Ahmedabad woman said, according to reports.
The woman had filed a complaint against them the first time they beat her up but she eventually went back to living with them after they arrived at a ‘compromise.’ It seems as though empty promises were made as the Ahmedabad woman says that things did not improve at all, “My husband and in-laws did not help me when I was pregnant and sent me to my parents’ place.” The woman gave birth to a daughter on September 18, 2017. This, unfortunately, did not go well with her already very abusive family as she was beaten up for not giving birth to a boy.

The Ahmedabad woman claims that her husband abandoned her on February 7 of this year and despite interventions by the community leaders, the husband and his family have denied reconciliation. After this, the Ahmedabad woman went to Madhavpura police station and lodged a domestic violence complaint against them.
I cannot imagine the heartlessness one must possess to do this to anyone let alone their own daughter-in-law and wife. But then again, domestic violence against women is not new in our society. Not only in Ahmedabad or India but this issue persists throughout the world. While there have been reforms to change this, domestic violence is still very prevalent.
