Girls Barred From Entering College For Not Wearing Burqa In Afghanistan. How Long Will Women’s Education Suffer Due To Taliban Rules?

In many countries across the world, women are bearing the brunt of male dominance. There are numerous cases have come to light in the past few months. The death of Mahsa Amini, and the other women who died during The Anti-Hijab protest in Iran. Mahsa Amini was killed because the moral police of the country thought that apparently, she was not wearing her hijab properly. This was the most extreme and inhumane action for something that the woman was not guilty of. But women bearing the punishment for not dressing as per the religious standards of the country does not end here.  There is an incident that has now surfaced from Afghanistan where the education of girls is suffering under the Taliban rule and this time because they were not wearing burqas.

After the Taliban overtook Afghanistan, the women of the country are being suppressed in every way possible. They have been stripped of the most basic rights, which include education too. Now, there have been reports about young girls being denied to enter college campuses for not wearing burqas. This happened at Badakhshan University, where girls were stopped by the guards just because they were dressed according to the Taliban’s set rules of dressing. As per the news, the President of the university has however said that strict actions will be taken against the guards because the students have complained about it.

Now, as soon as the Taliban took control of the administration in Afghanistan, they have made every possible rule to oppress women in the country. They are not allowed to attend school after the sixth grade. Women are not even allowed to take up jobs outside the home, they have to be accompanied by a man of the house when they step out and whatnot. And now there are reports of educational institutions treating girls based on how they dress.

It’s high time that the Taliban rules stop making the women’s lives in the county more difficult. It is distressing that the education of a woman has to suffer because of some unnecessary dressing rules set by the people in power. Education is all about giving students the power of knowledge so they can make their opinions but then on the other hand there are restrictions from entering institutions just because they are not dressed as per the religious rules of the country. They are not even given a choice here, basically.  This is clearly not right and I wonder for how long will this continue.
