Afghan Pornstar Yasmeena Ali Says Taliban Shut Down Women’s Education In Afghanistan To ‘Subjugate’ Women

For years, we’ve known that the one thing sexist men are scared of is an educated woman. I mean how are they supposed to enjoy the benefits of patriarchy if women are educated, know their rights and are willing to fight for them? That just makes it different for them to exploit a woman and infringe upon her rights. We’ve heard people complain about how educated women break homes and whatnot. Clearly, something isn’t right and that’s probably why education opens the eyes of women. I remember back when I had met my boyfriend’s (now husband) parents. I was time and again told how my legal degree was a cause for concern and I so wish I had noticed those red flags. That aside, it seems like women’s education is really a cause for concern for the Taliban. Ever since the Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan, women’s rights have become a concern for all feminists. FYI, the Taliban has banned women from getting an education and now, Afghan pornstar Yasmeena Ali pointed out that it’s all about power. She also opened up about the rules made by the Taliban-led government and how it violates women’s rights.

In a conversation with Tommy McDonald on the podcast ‘I Hate Porn’, pornstar Yasmeena Ali shared that the Taliban hates her content because ‘they don’t want Afghanistan to be known for porn’. She said that they believe that they own her body and what she chooses to do with it. She claimed that the Taliban believes that she has no right to show her body and that she cannot be a ‘true Afghan’ if she does. Pointing out that she gets loads of messages from trolls and people who question her religion and accuse her of faking it and being undercover. Well, okay then. “I am an Afghan, so f******g what. Maybe there are Taliban out there who are watching my content who knows? I am sure they have heard of me. I wouldn’t be surprised. Just write Afghan porn and you will find me. Just write those two words and you will see my name,” said Yasmeena.

FYI, Yasmeena moved to the United Kingdom when she was nine years old after she witnessed the Taliban’s violence against Afghan men and women in the 1990s. It was only after she moved to the UK that she could get an education and learn how to read and write. Speaking about women’s education, Yasmeena said that the Taliban is afraid of educating women while pointing out that the rules are only made for men’s advantages and pleasure. “If you are on your period you are considered unholy, dirty. Without women, there would be no human race but they have a problem with female sexuality because they are afraid of losing control,” said the pornstar. She further added that the idea is to ‘control and subjugate women’ and that cannot happen if they are educated because then they will ask questions instead of simply following orders. The pornstar pointed out that the Taliban wants to maintain its position of power and providing women with education or resources will threaten their status quo. “Those men love power. It is a barbaric caveman mentality. It is about power and the control you have over somebody,” said Yasmeena.

Recalling her time back in Afghanistan, the pornstar who calls herself a ‘feminist sex activist’ shared that her mother had once told her that under the Taliban rule there was no such thing as rape. She said that she remembers seeing the Taliban parade in Kabul which was very similar to what happened during the summer. Sharing that she never forgot how it felt to watch the violence in Afghanistan back in the day, Yasmeena said that she felt like she didn’t belong there and that it’s a surreal world. Speaking further she clarified that not only women but young men who did not have beards were also subjected to violence. The pornstar added that the people causing the violence are running the country now and questioned, “Who are you going to call? Do you want your hand chopped or not?”

This is not the first time that the pornstar has spoken up for women’s rights and against the Taliban. Yasmeena has time and again spoken up about the adversities faced by women in Afghanistan due to the Taliban-led government. On the other hand, the spokesperson for the Taliban has recently said that the schools will be reopened for girls in March. The spokesperson also added that the Taliban is not against women’s education. According to media reports, he was quoted saying that the reason behind shutting down the schools was to work on creating a ‘safe system’ for girls. He also shared that more female teachers will be hired so that only females teach the girls in schools. Well, okay then.

Politics aside, I personally feel that with the Taliban-led government in place, women’s rights and empowerment just took a backseat. And not just that, this is a setback for the women of Afghanistan who have practically lost their freedom. Guess, I just do agree with Yasmeena on this one (and every other). I mean have you seen all those oppressive rules imposed by the Taliban on women?
