To most Indians, cricket is more than a sport. It’s practically a religion. Watching the Indian team play well instils a sense of patriotism and nothing compares to that. The downside to all this cricket frenzy is that while the men’s team is revered, the women’s team is ignored and left forgotten. For the longest time, barely a handful of people knew an Indian women’s team even existed. But that’s all changing now. Thanks to cricketers like Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana, people have started noticing women’s cricket like never before. And today, when I saw a video that featured an adorable little girl from Kerala playing cricket, my heart filled with pride. She is breaking stereotypes and she doesn’t even know it.
This video features 6-year-old Mehak Fathima from Kerala playing cricket like a pro. She is clad in protective gear with pads and a helmet and she keeps knocking the balls out of the park. Mehak’s mother told Indian Express that she started playing the sport with her brother when she was merely 3-years-old. Her parents found out about her interest in the sport when Mehak questioned her father about not teaching her the game as she was a girl. We are loving everything about this little girl so much.

After generated buzz on social media, Mehak’s video was shared by Indian cricket coach Biju George on his Instagram handle. Netizens marvelled at her skill, potential and showered her with love and praise. The video also caught the eye of Indian Cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues. She commented on Biju’s post saying, “Superb Mehek” with fire emoji’s.
Mehak’s incredible video is getting recognition and praise all over social media. Her talent and passion are on point and we hope she grows up to be a great cricket player. If that’s what she wants too of course. More power to her!
