54-Year-Old Man Arrested For Marrying Then Duping 14 Women In Bhubaneswar

It can be really difficult to know that someone is intending to take advantage of you, especially when you trust that person and wants to spend your entire life with them. One similar case came to light when a 54-year-old man was arrested after he cheated 14 women by marrying them and then decamping with their money. This really shows that you cannot trust people easily these days.

On Monday, the Police arrested a 54-yea-old man named Bibhu Prakash Swain otherwise known as Ramesh Swain for allegedly marrying and cheating 14 women in Bhubaneswar. As per Dr Umashankar Dash who is the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police, the accused man used to pose as a doctor or a high-ranking government official and then used various matrimonial sites to target women. And after marrying them, he used to flee with the victim’s money. Dash also added that Swain had married and defrauded 14 women before he was arrested. His victims include a high-ranking officer in the Indo Tibetan Border Police and a lawyer who works at Delhi High Court. According to the reports, Swain’s intention was to steal all the money and properties of the victims after marrying them. He targeted women living in different states like Punjab, Jharkhand, and Delhi. The man took advantage of such women who wanted emotional security because they married late or were divorced. Many of his victims are highly educated and work in government and private organisations.

According to police, the 54-year-old man started conning women in 2002 and has 5 children. In July 2021, a school teacher lodged a complaint against the accused man in Delhi after she found out about his other marriages. Swain had married the woman in 2018 at an Arya Samaj Temple. After that complaint was filed, Police arrested him from Khandagiri, they also found 11 ATM cards, 4 Aadhaar cards of different names and a school certificate from Bihar with a different name on it. The Police booked him under Sections 498 (A) (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code.

Apart from this, the Police found out that the accused man was arrested in Hyderabad by a special task force in 2011. He allegedly duped many MBBS aspirants to the tune of Rs 2 crore by claiming that he is the Deputy Director-General of Central Health Education and Training. He also cheated the owner of a nursing home owner in Hyderabad on the pretext of arranging a medical seat for his son, as per reports.
