Team Hauterrfly Spills The Beans On Their Favourite Beauty And Fashion Staples Inspired By Female Style Icons

There’s no denying the fact that we have grown up, looking up to an idol. Am I right or am I right? Be it an actor, politician or a storyteller who moved us with her (or his) thoughts, we have always looked up to that shining sitaara with an aim to adapt even a small per cent of them. True, isn’t it? While there’s a lot more about their glimmering persona that strikes a chord with you, there’s something about their personal distinct style that makes them stand apart from the rest. And as we celebrate Women’s Day, I asked my fellow friends at work to share with me, their favourite female icons and a particular style or beauty staple, that left a mark on their minds and closets of course. So, let’s skip to the good part and get to know more about these lovely naris

JANVI MANCHANDA, SENIOR WRITER:

For me, it has to be Masaba Gupta. She’s got these prints that represent her life and cultural background and they’re so bold. She empowers so many women around her and is a determined strong female whose birth itself broke social norms. Speaking her mind at all times, I feel her clothes are a reflection of who she is. So yeah, that surely inspires me to be bold and allow myself to be seen with my voice and my clothes. I believe, we tend to run away from bold prints because they’re so loud and so in your face and women are told to remain subdued. So in that sense, she keeps us girls, looking bold and allows our existence to be seen.

My personal style can be summarised in 2 words– minimalistic and (preferably) all black. What can I say? I picked it up from Rosa from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I suppose I tend to put more work into my makeup because my clothes do tend to be sometimes too simple. Wearing different, dark and bolder lip colours helps me elevate my overall look, just like Rihanna. However, over time, it has given me the confidence to rock any and every shade of lip colour I want and good lipstick always makes me feel better.

Okay, Jeon Some is a K-Pop soloist who always likes to experiment with her style. She’s a huge inspiration for me when it comes to fashion because the way she styles her tops and still looks so feminine and cool is out of this world. Seeing her playing with prints and colours made me incorporate all the cool vibes in my closet as well.

My favourite two female icons have to be Vidya Balan and Rekha ji. The two exude power through their style. Personally, I love Vidya Balan’s sarees. And however, I don’t put on makeup, I love how bold makeup Rekha ji puts, which breaks the agist stereotype that–women of a certain age can only put bold colours and have a tonne of makeup on.

My current favourite has to be Queen Z AKA Zendaya. While we all are aware of her fashion ke charche, Zendaya’s persona shines through the outfits she chooses to wear. A girl as young as Z, I love how she balances everything out so well. Inspiring my wardrobe choices at all times, Zendaya’s supremely stunning idea of power dressing through pant-suits, and strong-shouldered bodice, silhouettes has now made a space in my closet too. Speaking through her ensemble, Zendaya’s choice of clothing always comes with a deeper meaning and goes beyond the sparkle of style, and I have learnt the idea of statement-making through Zendaya’s sartorial sense.
