‘Bridgerton 2’ Star Simone Ashley Talks About The Painful Effects Of Her Corsets In The Show. Fashion Really Killed It Here
Fashion at times can be a real-time killer, and I am not even kidding. With heels serving as a perfect example of the slow-death style journey, fashion has always come at the cost of pain. And opening up about the same is Bridgerton season 2’s, Simone Ashley. While we all love the world of Bridgerton and corset filled closets dipped into the most beautiful pastel hues, a corset is indeed a killer. Talking about the challenges exhibited by her costume as Kate Sharma, Simone shared in an interview about how she fell sick and uneasy post a heavy meal on the sets of Bridgerton 2, all because of the pretty-looking lacy corset. Explaining this she also revealed how her body changed after wearing the corset, “I had a smaller waist very momentarily. Then the minute you stop wearing it, you’re just back to how your body is. I had a lot of pain with the corset, too, I think I tore my shoulder at one point!”

Just like Simone, her co-star actress Nicola Coughlan, also made an important point about the fitted corsets and demanded the need for “corsetry acting awards” if possible. We agree, Nicola, those look really painful.

Okay, now that’s tough. And not forgetting the usual nature of a corset, as dated back in the early 1800s, when wearing a corset came with the notion of compulsion for women in that era. Due to its waist cinching silhouette, corsets also led to health issues, especially in pregnant women, and became a recipient of hate in a women’s wardrobe. Followed by the invention of bloomer dresses by women’s activist Amelia Bloomer, that soon replaced the corsets, but Bridgerton season one flagged off the arrival of the trend amongst fashion souls.

Simone Ashley’s take on film costumes also highlights the sufferings of the actors who wrap around themselves, the most painful wearables to portray a role on the big screen. Also, prosthetics and makeup being an integral part of the same, I still remember Zendaya’s valid queries regarding beau Tom Holland’s struggles with the popular Spider-Man suit, that hardly comes with a breathing space. Filmmaking indeed is a difficult process and at times these lovely onscreen kirdaars can serve the artists with a hard time.
Talking about Bridgerton, artists many a times have complained about the problematic silhouette structures and struggles of wearing heels in every scene. I mean, to bring an era back on screen, you gotta get through the trouble, and at this point, I feel the cast has accurately put khoon, paseena and loads of pain into its filming.
