There is a certain joy in walking through a street market with beautiful colourful dupattas hanging from storefronts. I am a big fan of collecting dupattas, they are an ethnic wear staple that we cannot help but obsess over. My wardrobe certainly has a messed up salwar kameez to dupatta ratio, I stockpile them to mix and match.
Most recently I have even gotten into the habit of trying different styles of draping the dupatta, it can get repetitive after a while- even though brushing one on someone’s face never gets old- thought that’s a movie thing, maybe. On days I can’t shake some creativity out of my nubbin, I just skip the dupatta. Which is a look more and more women are getting on board with. Given that we have so many options to replace a dupatta with, why not?
This rings especially true with lehengas during the wedding season. Wedding festivities are already filled to the brim with outfit changes, rituals and a lot of bhangra. It would be nice to not worry about a silly dupatta all the time.
