From ‘Sharara’ To ‘Baras Ja Ae Badal,’ Here’s Revisiting Birthday Girl Shamita Shetty’s Mind Blowing Blockbuster Tracks

The era of early 2000s was truly significant in the history of Bollywood. Be it the songs, fashion or scripts, the transition from bouffant hair buns, dancing by the tree to chiffon sarees and glam-doll stories, the 2000s gifted us with a time that we still cherish and revisit. And while we talk about that, how can we ever forget the great dance numbers that never fail to take us on a trip to nostalgia even today. And a part of the beautiful time was also actress Shamita Shetty who brought delight to the big screen with her on-point fashion, and fiery dance numbers. Some of which still breathe in my playlist. So, let’s rewind a bit and celebrate birthday girl and Bigg Boss 15 star, actress Shamita Shetty’s most popular tracks.

Sharara

‘Sharara’ definitely stands synonymous with Shamita Shetty. The song came out in the 2002 film, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi hai and also featured actors Jimmi Shergill and Uday Chopra with vocals by Asha Bhosle. My favourite track from the list, I still remember the number of speakers that instantly tuned to ‘Sharara Sharara’ at every possible get together, especially because I myself had to dance to the track for ‘uncle aunty ko dance karke dikhao’ moments. Additionally, the song fed the obsession for shimmery bell bottoms with a thigh-high slit, embellished belts and ofc that Poo-approved backless crop top. Considering people’s love for the song, I just hope no one remixes this one for a 2.0 version. Leave it alone, please!

Mind Blowing Mahiya

‘You’re my mind-blowing mahiya’ featuring Shamita Shetty’s mind-blowing moves still has my heart skip a beat. A song that also made it to Bigg Boss’ morning playlist this year, it featured in the 2007 film, Cash and was picturised on Shamita Shetty and Ajay Devgn with vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan. While I am not sure about the film’s success (can’t put it to words), the song went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year. The track also gave a shimmery twist to 2000’s fashion favourite dungaree dress, with Ajay Devgn’s golden streaks being an unmissable frame (why did he do that to himself?).

Chori Pe Chori

I remember re-watching the music video of ‘Chori Pe Chori’ a few days back and oh boy, Shamita looked drop-dead gorgeous. However, the song was amongst the 2002 film, Saathiya’s mind-blowing track list composed by AR Rahman, it didn’t gain much love as compared to the film’s title song, ‘Saathiya’ and other hits like ‘Chhalka Chhalka Re,’ ‘O Humdum Suniyo Re.’ But whatever that be, I still love it, also because it features Shamita Shetty in a full-blown bohemian look and a refreshing beach set-up. Plus the crochet trend became quite big then after.

Mohabbatein Instrumental

As we list down one of Shamita Shetty’s most popular works, how can we not mention the blockbuster Yashraj film Mohabbatein. 2000’s romantic drama that makes it to almost all Valentine’s day special watchlists, the Aditya Chopra directorial, also marked Shamita Shetty’s debut in the world of films and indeed an impressive one. Dancing with actor Uday Chopra in the film’s instrumental track, the actress’ stunning dance sequence in a black gym co-ord set is something that is still talked about. Uff! And Shamita’s character Ishika’s closet featuring metallic scarf tops, pink co-ord sets, sea-green lehenga and the fab workout wear, that literally is what many today flaunt in the name of athleisure, have me say ‘What a queen Sham!’

Baras Ja Ae Badal

Probably the first time we watched the Shetty sisters together on the big screen, the song ‘Baras Ja Ae Badal’ from the 2005 film, Fareb, was quite a hit.  The song featured both Shamita and Shilpa Shetty alongside actor Manoj Bajpayee and served an uncanny resemblance of the two. While the film wasn’t received quite well and had one of the Shetty sisters’ characters being murdered the other for a man in between (so typical) the song left its mark on the audiences.
