A 60-Year-Old Mom Models For Son’s Fashion Brand, Cardi B Applauds

Gone are the days, when a twenty-something, perfectly postured model would only make it to the front page of a big brand. With changing times, and mindsets, we have observed a few positive alterations too.  And one such heartwarming sight is this Cardi B inspired photoshoot on a 60-year-old. Yes, you read it right. In a display of creative improvisation, Travis Di’meer, founder of fashion label IEMBE, styled his 60-year-old mother for his brand’s latest photo shoot. He also shared a small video showing his mother posing against the beats of various songs including Doja Cat’s latest hit “Get Into It (Yuh)”.

Posing in green outerwear, layered over a white dress, knee-high boots, a cool bucket hat and some funky shades, I bet you for a second, you too thought it’s Cardi B herself. The mini-ad shoot as posted on Travis Di’meer’s social media handles was inspired by rapper Cardi B’s iconic Balenciaga outfit and features his mom modelling for the label’s accessories and clothing range. A display of some quirky fashionable pieces and the fact he chose his mother instead of a professional model, caught many eyes and in no time went viral.


The pictures that he shared with a caption, “Didn’t book any models for my brand So I asked my 60yro mom to &…” have reached around 79.5k likes while the video too garnered love with more than 20,105 likes ( I mean wow!).

While many came in, quickly to share their views and applaud the shoot, Cardi B too appreciated the look and mentioned “Wow I feel so honoured.”

 

The ad shoot brings to notice a million stereotypes attached to the world of fashion which seem to ease out with the progression in years. Abolishing the ‘type’ that measures a model’s ability to feature on a brand page, this story is serving as a great example. With many supermodels like Bella Hadid coming in the open to discuss the toxic body image, courtesy of the luxury brand shoots and monthly runways. What makes the photoshoot unique and feel like a breath of fresh air is the idea of choosing a 60-year-old and battling the ageist mentality in utmost swag. The black-owned label named IEMBE has since gained much visibility online with queries pouring in about the green bag styled in the photos (sure why not, I too would like to get one for myself).
