Yami Gautam Asks Reviewer To Not Review Her Performances After Negative Opinions On ‘Dasvi’
I think it is self-explanatory that reviews are simply opinions and nothing is set in stone just because someone published their opinion somewhere. Obviously one should be open to criticism but then again, it isn’t that hard to ignore them and move on with their life. I recently reviewed Dasvi, a movie starring Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam Dhar and Nimrat Kaur. While I really enjoyed watching the movie and loved everyone’s performances, there were some that didn’t and they are entitled to their own opinions. Recently, Rahul Desai from Film Companion reviewed Dasvi and clearly wasn’t pleased with the movie. In his review, he has criticised Yami’s performance which upset her to an extent that she took to Instagram and spoke about his review.
In an extensive Twitter thread, Yami Gautam spoke about the review and she was not pleased with the evaluation. She took to Twitter to talk about her frustrations as an actor and as an outsider in Bollywood. She further said that considering that she has had many recent performances such as A Thursday, Bala, Uri etc and calling Dasvi an evaluation of her skills is unfair.
Before I say anything else, I’d like to say that I usually take constructive criticism in my stride. But when a certain platform keeps trying to pull you down consistently, I felt it necessary to speak up about it. https://t.co/GGczNekBhP pic.twitter.com/wdBYXyv47V

My recent films & performances include 'A Thursday', 'Bala', 'Uri' etc & yet this is qualified as a 'review' of my work! It's extremely disrespectful!

Yami further elaborated how hard it is for any actor but especially a self-made actor like herself to constantly prove her mettle in Bollywood and then to be constantly pulled down like this is hurtful and disrespectful. She ended her thread by asking them to not review her works anymore.
It takes years of hard work for anyone & especially a self-made actor like me to keep proving our mettle again & again with every opportunity. This is what it comes down to from certain reputed portals!

It's heartbreaking since I did look up to @FilmCompanion once upon a time, like many of us, but I don't seek that since long now! I would request you not to 'review' my performance henceforth ! I'll find grace in that & it'll be less painful.

Now, I understand Yami’s frustration. I am certain she has worked really hard to get to where she is. However, it is also important to keep in mind that film reviewers/critics are also simply doing their job. At the end of the day, this is how they perceive the movie and one is free to ignore it if they would like. Asking them to stop reviewing her isn’t the most ideal way to go about this.
