Exclusive: “I Was Once Given A Script With Four Songs And No Dialogues,” Tisca Chopra On Women Being Ornamental In Films

Many actresses in Bollywood have often come out and spoken about their portrayal in films. While with changing times, there has been a shift in the way women are presented on the big screen, some still struggle to find scripts that travel deep into a female character in a story. Speaking about her personal experience is actress Tisca Chopra. Chopra in the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist spoke about her initial years in the industry.

She said–When I came to Bombay, the first script which I got had no scenes, and when I asked the person said ‘Madam you have four songs in the film,‘ and that confused me. I later told them that I am not a singer, so what’s the purpose of these four songs? And he said These are songs, you will look good and sexy in them.‘ So the idea that the female provides the titillation aspect was there.”
