Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ MV Is Aesthetically Beautiful But The Lyrics Are Stressing Me Out. It’s Confusing!

You know, before becoming a massive K-drama and K-Pop fan, I was a Swiftie and I will always be one because the fandom life chose me and I accepted it as my fate. So, when the Pop icon Taylor Swift released an album and new music video before Diwali, I thought the festival of lights is going to become brighter than ever for me. The music video called ‘Anti-Hero’ is a rollercoaster of emotions with aesthetically beautiful visuals. However, the lyrics of the track are kind of stressing me out. It’s confusing, TBH.

The new track ‘Anti-Hero’, which is written and directed by the oh-so-talented singer Taylor Swift, is the first video from the album ‘Midnights’ which revolves around the ‘All Too Well’ singer partying with her anti-hero who looks just like her. Well, I liked the overall vibe of the music video as it is full of complex human emotions but hidden meanings in the lyrics are stressing me out for some reason. Now, I’m not doubting Taylor’s brilliant songwriting skills here, some elements and scenes are very relatable. The scene where she enters a room and everyone looks at her like she is from another planet reminded me of the time when I felt like an outsider in a crowded room.

The scene in the music video where a trio of her fictional adult children played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Mike Birbiglia, and John Early argue over her will at her funeral as she peeks out of a coffin is hilarious and only Swift can pull this off.

I know that she is trying to talk about her insecurities and how she used to doubt herself when people used to judge her. But all the complex interpretations of the song by her fans on social media confused me and it was not the vibe I was expecting from the highly-anticipated music video.

So, as a Swiftie, I didn’t really understand the meaning behind the ‘Anti-Hero’ music video. But the fact that Taylor Swift is a global icon and a talented musician will never change for me.

For the unversed, ‘Midnights’ is Taylor Swift’s first album of all-new songs since 2020’s ‘Evermore’. And we are planning to play all 13 songs on a loop till we get the other music videos by her (sounds like a great plan!).
