Taapsee Pannu Talks About The Difference In Perception Of “Tangible Success” For Men And Women, And How It’s Unfair To Both Genders

I feel like we have created unrealistic standards for women and men in general. Women and men have to follow the age-old gender norms created by society or else, they have to prepare themselves for the judgement. Recently, Taapsee Pannu spoke about the pressure for tangible success being on men, and how for women, it is considered a lucky thing or a bonus if they get successful. And how it is unfair and negatively affects both genders. She has a point!

On Friday, Taapsee Pannu appeared at the ABP Networks’ ‘Ideas of India’ summit where she was being interviewed by the famous author, Chetan Bhagat. While talking about her struggle in Mumbai, the Rashmi Rocket actor said mentioned that the responsibility of feeding a family is always on the shoulders of men of the house. She said, “People ask me about the struggle of making it in Mumbai, making it in this industry. And of course, there is struggle, but, you know, if I compare it with the struggle of some boys who come to the city from some other, smaller towns, the onus of making money and be able to feed a family, or to be able to have a family is so much more on the man.”

Talking further, she mentioned how it is unfair for men and women as it lacks equality. “It is obviously unfair because it’s not equal. I mean, you can both run the family, if not the man, then the woman…. That’s where we want to eventually reach. But we’re not there yet. That’s why the whole tangible success responsibility rests on the shoulder of a man, not the woman. For women, it’s more like ‘Success mil gaya toh it is a bonus’. It’s not that success was needed. For men, it’s a mandatory thing. So that’s why I said, I don’t know who to feel worse for because the pressure is different, but it is there on both the genders.” she said.
