Shriya Pilgaonkar’s Tweet Sparks Debate: Do Social Media Followers Equal Success in Bollywood?

Shriya Pilgaonkar has been making waves in the OTT industry after her meteoric rise in Mirzapur. The daughter of actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, Shriya has been appreciated for her performances in series like Guilty Minds, Broken News, and many more. But when she is such a good actor, does the number of her social media following really matter when she’s being considered for roles?

Recently, Shriya tweeted this question that sparked an interesting debate on whether you can actually be successful in Bollywood without a large social media presence. There are many who believe that having a large following on social media is crucial for success in the industry. However, Shriya’s success has challenged this notion.

On Twitter, she wrote, “Actors should not be made to feel that they NEED to have a certain social media following to be considered for projects.” As expected, her words sparked a variety of responses, with some concurring that certain creators have acquired a large following despite the lack of quality in their work with what they produce on social media is mediocre at best and sometimes even cringe.

It is true that having a large social media presence can help in the promotion of a film or music album. However, it is also true that without great content, no amount of social media promotion will help.

Shriya has also proved that you don’t need a huge social media following to make it in Bollywood. She has been able to establish herself as a credible actor without relying on a large following. This debate has become even more relevant in the current times, when social media has become an integral part of the entertainment industry.

I can understand her point, as many talented indie stars and OTT actors have loyal fanbases that are not reflected on their social media platforms. A Twitter user even commented on how social media can be over-glamorized in order to gain more attention, which makes me think that the success of an artist isn’t necessarily measured by their digital presence.

Shriya Pilgaonkar has been creating quite a buzz recently for her performance in Disney+ Hotstar’s six-episode series, Taaza Khabar. Her performance was both captivating and extraordinary, and her dialogues were filled with heartfelt emotion. She was seen with Bhuvam Bam, India’s foremost content creator in the show and the two of them shared wonderful on-screen chemistry.
