Satluj Controversy: Centre Pulls Down Diljit Dosanjh Film Over ‘Security Concerns’, Forms Panel To Review: Reports

There is a lot of discussion around Diljit Dosanjh’s starrer Satluj. The film was recently dropped on an OTT platform, but was taken down just after one day. The actors and director, Honey Trehan, also reacted to it. As per the latest updates on the same, reports suggest that the movie was pulled down on the centre’s directives due to security reasons. Centre Forms Panel To Review Satluj
Diljit Dosanjh, in one of the live social media sessions, said that he was expecting that the film could be pulled down, but not so quickly. There are also a lot of discussions about the film already happening on social media. Amid this, reports are suggesting that the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information (MIB) had directed the platform to take down Diljit Dosanjh starrer Satluj from its platform. According to a Hindustan Times report, the MIB asked for the removal of the film under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, read with Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. For the unversed, Section 69A can be invoked for concerns related to the security of the State.
Furthermore, the report further quotes an anonymous senior official from the Ministry who said that an interdepartmental committee was set up to examine the content of the film and the complaints that were made against it, to further make suggestions to the centre based on their findings. This panel has reportedly been made under Rule 14 of the 2021 IT Rules. The meeting to form a panel took place on Monday, according to reports. This happened a day after Satluj was taken down from Zee5.
More About Satluj
Satluj, initially titled Punjab ’95, was stuck in the CBFC process for over three years. The film’s uncut version with a new title was suddenly dropped on Friday, July 3. The film revolves around the life of Human Rights activist Jaswant Singh Kalra and his sudden disappearance. It is based on the militancy era in Punjab in 1995.
