Honey Trehan’s directorial was suddenly released on an OTT platform but was immediately taken down. It has sparked discussions on social media, with many reacting strongly to it. What Is Satluj?
Based on true events, the Honey Trehan film was earlier titled Punjab ’95. It was suddenly released on Zee5 on Friday, July 4, with no prior notice or promotion. For the unversed, the film had finally got a release after four years of constant delay. The film was submitted to the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022, but it got stuck in the process for three long years. The CBFC also reportedly asked the makers to make over 127 cuts in the movie and also change the title. Going by the reports, a screening of Satluj was also cancelled at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023, after Indian Authorities raised concerns.
After a long censorship battle, Punjab ’95 was dropped on Zee5 as Satluj. However, it did not last long on the OTT platform. By Sunday, the film was removed. Zee5 also posted an official statement regarding the removal of the Diljit Dosanjh film. In its statement, the OTT platform acknowleged the overwhelming response that the film got from audiences. The platform also firmly clarified its stand for the film and for bringing authentic storytelling to the public. The note clarified that the film will remain unavailable in India until further notice and was taken down “in the light of current developments.” The platform has assured the audience that efforts are being made to bring the film back on OTT platforms. Diljit Dosanjh, in a live session on social media, expressed his view on his film Satluj. The actor said that he was expecting the possibilities of the film being removed; however, he was also glad that their work could reach a large part of the audience. Diljit Dosanjh was also grateful for all the love that the film received.
