Priyanka Chopra Slams “Appalling” Body Spray Ad For Gang Rape Innuendo, Asks “How Many People Thought This Was Okay?”

We’ve all established the fact that men’s perfume and deodorant ads are offensive and sexualise and objectify women. But a recent ad for men’s perfume crossed yet another line by creating an ad based on the fear of rape that women live with every single day and made a joke out of it. An ad created by Layer’r Shot has left the entire country enraged ever since it was shared on Twitter and called out for being offensive, insensitive and derogatory. Several celebs have also expressed their contempt including Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker and Farhan Akhtar. And now, Bollywood-turned-Hollywood queen Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to express her displeasure and anger with regard to the offensive body spray advertisement that targets women.

Responding to a tweet shared by Fukrey actress Richa Chadha, Priyanka Chopra called it “shameful and disgusting”. She questioned how many levels of clearances did the advertisement need for it to receive a green light. She also questioned how many people thought that the ad was okay while adding that she is glad that it was called out and action was taken against it and the makers. This tweet came in response to Richa Chadha’s tweet where the actress had slammed the brand for making an advertisement like this while pointing out that it isn’t just an accident as these ads go through layers of decision making including those from the brand like creatives, script, casting, client and much more. Richa questioned if everyone involved considers rape a joke. She went on to suggest that the agency that made the ad should be sued. We don’t disagree. Making fun of rape is never okay.

Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar had hit back at the makers of the ad and called them “incredibly tasteles and twisted minds” for thinking, approving and creating body spray ad with gang rape innuendo. Sona Mohapatra also tweeted about the disgusting ad and said that it is based on a gang rape theme and it makes her gag and wonder if this publicity is bad for the brand.
