Karan Johar’s ‘Koffee With Karan S7’ Accused Of Plagiarism, Writer Says The Show Used Her “Whole Copy Verbatim”

We love a show that can give us the gossip and spill the tea on all things Bollywood. And the one show that tops our list is Koffee With Karan. Hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, this talk show has given us loads of gossip and some major controversies since 2004. But what if your favourite show steals your intellectual property? Now as much as we’d like to think otherwise, the fact is that is quite common in almost every industry. And plagiarism is a big big issue that’s more common than we’d like. And it looks like Koffee With Karan is in trouble for plagiarism. Recently, a writer and journalist, Manya Lohit Ahuja took to Twitter to point out that the talk show not only stole her IP but also failed to give credit for it. The writer accused the makers of the show of stealing questions for a quiz round in episode 2 of Koffee With Karan Season 7 where the host, Karan Johar, asked Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor to guess the name of films based on a small description of the film.

In a tweet shared by the writer, she accused the makers of Koffee With Karan of “lifting” a question from a story written by her years ago for a leading women’s lifestyle platform. Sharing a screenshot of a quiz IP started by her, Manya called out the makers for using the “whole copy verbatim”. She went on to share that she came up with the concept and had a lot of fun writing it and added that to not be credited for it “just because it was frivolous” is unacceptable. In the screenshot of the article shared by the writer-journalist, the headline reads, “Guess The Movie With The Help Of These Badly Explained Plots”. In episode 2 of Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar also hosted a quiz for Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor and asked them to guess the name of the film and used this exact headline to explain the game. In the second screenshot, there is a question that describes the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’s plot. In another tweet, the writer also shared a clip from the show where KJo can be seen asking the actresses the question which is exactly the same as the one written in the article.
