Shahid Kapoor And Mrunal Thakur Starrer ‘Jersey’ Postponed Due To Rising Covid-19 Cases

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur were all set to grace the silver screen in Gowtam Tinnanuri’s film Jersey this Friday on December 31, 2021. The story illustrates the journey of an ex-cricketer, whose struggle to meet ends takes him back to the field he once ruled. The fans were really excited to see Shahid and Mrunal sharing screen space for the first time. But it seems like they will have to wait a little longer. As per reports, the makers have decided to hold the release of the film owing to the rising case of Covid-19 in the country.

Due to the rising Omicron cases, all the theatres in Delhi are already closed, and theatres in Maharashtra are allowing only 50% occupancy. All these restrictions would have affected the box-office collection of the film and would have also affected the safety of the audience, that’s why the makers of Jersey had to take this decision. They also released an official statement regarding the same. “In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!”

Jersey is a remake of the blockbuster Telugu sports drama of the same name that starred Nani and Shraddha Srinath. It offers a glimpse of finely layered characters portrayed by Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur. Amongst one of the much-awaited list of films, Jersey was earlier slated for August 2020 release but then it changed to December 31, 2021. And now, the film won’t get released in theatres because of the covid-19 pandemic on this date either.
