Emily Carey Says Intimate Scenes With Paddy Considine On ‘House Of The Dragon’ Went Smoothly Because Of Intimacy Coordinators
In recent times, conversations revolving around intimacy coordinators and how they are so crucial in movies and shows have erupted and I’m so glad for it. I mean, having them around ensures that the actors feel safe and be a link between the director and the actors. In fact, they are the ones to resolve any apprehensions actors might have regarding filming intimate scenes. In fact, recently Emily Carey who plays young Alicent Hightower in the House Of The Dragon spoke about how apprehensive she was about filming intimate scenes with her much-older co-star Paddy Considine who plays the role of King Viserys. Emily Carey revealed that having an intimacy coordinator on the sets of House Of The Dragon made for a safe environment where she could openly talk about her angst without feeling awkward or getting shunned.
For those who have not watched the latest episode of House Of The Dragon, *Spoiler Alert* there are some intimate scenes between Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) and King Viserys (Paddy Considine) that can be seen as a bit cringe. In one scene, you see Alicent bathing the King and in the other, she is seen lying motionless as King Viserys engages in involuntary intercourse with her.

Speaking about these intimate scenes in House Of The Dragon in an interview, Emily Carey said that she was 17 when she read these scenes in the script and it scared her completely. She said, “It scared me because at that point I still hadn’t met Paddy, I didn’t know how much of a joy he was and how easy he was going to make (the scene)…” She went on to say that for her he was an older man and that concerned her a bit.

However, Emily Carey said that she had an outlet on the sets of House Of The Dragon and that was none other than the intimacy coordinator. She said, “And having that outlet of the intimacy coordinator, to be able to talk everything through and not be shunned, or not feel awkward, or not feel like ‘Oh, this isn’t your job. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable but can I ask you…’ it was never any of that, it was just that open dialogue.”
Emily Carey further emphasised the fact that having an intimacy coordinator while filming House Of The Dragon added to the experience and it turned out way better and much more comfortable than she had expected. It was a lot easier than she ever thought it could be.
