Lady Gaga, Andrew Garfield, Michael Douglas, Brian Cox And More Show Solidarity For Ukraine During The SAG Awards

Amidst the war in Ukraine due to the invasion by Russia, many celebrities and famous personalities are using their position and following to cause awareness about the happenings in Ukraine. Many celebs took the opportunity to talk about Ukraine and lend their support to the country during the recent 28th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Celebs such as Lady Gaga,  Greta Lee, Andrew Garfield, Michael Douglas, and others took the global reach of the SAG awards to draw attention to the war in Ukraine. Be it by words or fashion choices, many of these stars have chosen to be open about their solidarity with the war-torn country.

Lady Gaga brought up Ukraine in her interview with Laverne Cox as she was E! News’ red carpet emcee for the evening. She expressed her gratitude for being able to be present at the SAG awards.

Greta Lee also showed her solidarity for Ukraine by walking the SAG wearing in blue and yellow, the country’s flag colours.

Andrew Garfield also took the opportunity at SAG to discuss the atrocities that Ukraine is going through. “A pretty tricky day to celebrate, but keeping what’s happening in Ukraine in our hearts, it’s definitely odd that we’re dressing up in this moment, but I’m grateful to be here with our community,” he said according to Vanity Fair.

Brian Cox, who won the best-ensemble-in-a-drama-series award for Succession also discussed the conflict. He empathised with the pain of his fellow actors and artists in the country. He spread the message of standing together for Ukraine and those in Russia that do not support the war.

Michael Douglas was also seen sporting a yellow and blue pocket square that resembled the Ukrainian flag. He said, “This is not the LA Rams,’ referencing the Los Angeles football team that outfits in the same colours. If ever there was a time for us to appreciate what true democracy is, I’m just so proud of what these people of this country have done,” according to The Daily Mail.

Fran Drescher, who is the President of SAG, also used her time on the stage to extend her love and support to Ukraine.  Similarly, Jean Smart, who won female actor in a comedy series for Hacks, also used some of her speech time to ask everyone to pray for peace.

Jessica Chastain, who won the award for Best Actor Female in a film for The Eyes of Tammy Faye also extended her support to the country during the SAG awards.

I won’t lie, seeing these many stars extend their love and support to Ukraine makes my heart warm. Humanity isn’t dead as these stars have taken the opportunity at SAG awards to speak about a major global matter and actually create awareness and empathy for all victims involved.
