As UNHCR Special Envoy, Angelina Jolie Speaks Up About Extending Support To War Victims In Ukraine

Amidst the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the plight of the Ukrainian people is being seen and recognised by the entire world. Celebrities from all around the globe have taken to social media and spoken about the war. We have heard reports of celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Sonu Sood, Tillotama Shome, Richa Chadha, Cardi B, Cher etc talking about this entire travesty. However, we now have Hollywood’s queen, Angelina Jolie who has spoken about this and has shown her solidarity with Ukraine.

Angelina Jolie is known for her humanitarian work on a global level. After her years of dedication towards the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and refugee services, she was appointed Special Envoy in 2012. Angelina took to Instagram and talked about her support for the Ukrainian citizens.

Angelina Jolie posted to Instagram with the caption, “Like many of you, I’m praying for the people in Ukraine. My focus along with my @refugees colleagues is that everything possible is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of those displaced, and refugees in the region. We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety. It is too soon to know what will happen, but the significance of this moment – for the people of Ukraine, and for the international rule of law – cannot be overstated. #ukraine #russia”.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have also come forth to extend their support. The couple have posted to their respective Instagram with the captions, “In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighbouring countries. They need protection. @usaforunhcr is providing it. When you donate, we’ll match it up to $1,000,000, creating DOUBLE the support.”
