In a shocking news piece today, three people who were on board the cruise MV Hondius have passed away as the ship sailed through the Atlantic Ocean. The shocking part is that there might be a possible outbreak of Hantavirus on the ship. Out of the three people, the woman has reportedly tested positive for the said virus. Now, one more person who has tested positive for Hantavirus has been evacuated from the cruise. Know the major details about it below.
Three People Died On Cruise Ship Amid Possible Hantavirus Outbreak
For the unversed, the three people who passed away involved a Dutch husband and wife and a German passenger. It was the Dutch woman who reportedly tested positive for Hantavirus. Additionally, a 69-year-old British man, who was very sick, has tested positive for the said virus. He has been evacuated from the ship and is admitted to a hospital in South Africa. Apart from that, two crew members who were in close contact with the German national will be evacuated from the ship, which is anchored near Cape Verde. As of now, it is unconfirmed if those crew members have been infected yet. Now, the local authorities have asked the other passengers not to leave the ship, per the reports.

What Is Hantavirus?
Hantavirus is spread by rodents, including mice, rats, and more, and can impact your respiratory or kidney functions. This typically happens by breathing the air contaminated with rodent urine, droppings, or saliva. The most common symptoms for this are fatigue, fever, muscle aches and breathing difficulties.
Now, as far as the MV Hondius cruise goes, around 149 passengers from 23 countries, who have reportedly travelled more than 6000 miles at sea from Argentina a month ago, remain under the strict precautionary measures. This includes isolation and hygiene protocols.
