All the lovey-dovey pictures that they share of each other, all the PDA-packed public appearances, and all the couple goals that they set, all are received on a positive note by the fans. But things turn ugly real fast when that idealised couple breaks up, and all hell breaks loose in the couple’s fandom, case in cue – Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber.

Jelena as they were lovingly shipped, broke up in November 2012. After many rumours and much denial, Justin and Hailey Bieber began dating. Oh, the hate Hailey got for dating Justin and people saying that she ‘stole’ him from Selena was ridiculous! It is quite shocking to see all the love from fans turn to hate in an instant among them. As if Hailey came with a mission of breaking apart Selena and Justin.

Firstly, people need to stop saying things like Hailey ‘stole’ Justin! As if she did it intentionally! This whole other woman business needs to stop and labeling the woman as a catalyst in the breakup of their favourite couple is quite stupid. People have witnessed how things began getting sour between Selena and Justin. There are actual dates and records of when Jelena began dating and broke up, and when Justin began dating Hailey. It is not a coup that took place while keeping the fans in the dark that they have to be so salty about it.

Secondly, how is Hailey and Justin’s relationship only the former’s ‘fault’, if I may use the word? If Hailey was the 50% part of the relationship, clearly Justin was the other 50%. He was neither forced nor coerced into falling in love with Hailey as people assume is how things went down between the two. And it is quite interesting to see that fans would rather believe that their favourite star was in an unhappy relationship because they do not want to burst the bubble they have built around them, but will not accept the fact that that star is now in a much happy and healthy relationship, and is in a better head space as well!

Thirdly, all three parties involved in this matter are consenting adults. So, when Justin decided to go out with Hailey, he knew what he was doing. When he and Selena broke up, they both knew the gravity of their action and also must have had a vague idea about the consequences as well. So, can we all just stop calling the woman a ‘stealer’ because there was nothing worth stealing about in a person! Justin is an adult human being who got himself involved with both the women in his right senses, so why not, for once, question him about his course of actions? What is with all blaming Hailey for the end of an unhealthy relationship?

Lastly, people need to stop having tunnel vision about celebrity romances. All that glitters is not always gold, which is the perfect saying that applies here! If two people got together then, it was a consenting choice of both to decide to pursue a relationship. Nobody stole anyone like a coveted prize! Jeez, calm down, people. And very importantly, all those labelling Hailey as a ‘man-stealer’ need to get their vocabularies updated because we don’t use the ‘s’ word anymore.
