Neeta Lulla On Working With Sridevi

Neeta Lulla graced the episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist hosted by Siddharth Aalambayan. The famous designer has a wholehearted chat with the host about her life, work and achievements. During the conversation, Neeta Lulla also recalled the experience of working with Sridevi for the first time and how that photoshoot created history. Talking about Sridevi, Neeta ji said, “She was a guide, mentor and support system that day.” Elaborating on the same, she said, “For Sridevi’s photoshoot, I was approached by photographer Rakesh Shrestha, and I went like YESS.” Neeta Lulla further explained how back in those days there was not an elaborate team to work on photoshoots. She said, “There was just a photographer, stylist, designer and conceptualise with whatever you have to make the photos look larger than life.”

Recalling the day of the final shoot, Neela Lulla said, “I walked in on the set with a small aluminium tiffin bag and everyone was looking at me because I did not have elaborate hangers, dresses or shoes along with me.” “I went to Sridevi ji and she asked me where’s the dress, I showed her the small bag. She looked at me and then at Rakesh. Rakesh also asked Sridevi if she wanted to cancel the shoot, but she denied,” added Neeta Lulla. However, the designer recalled how supportive and calm Sridevi was during the entire process which made her confidence boost. “She just asked me what to do, and I guided her with the dress. I asked her to remove some rollers on the hair, and she did. Sridevi ji then asked me what I wanted her to do, and that kind of support that day was amazing to be able to craft my path in styling,” added the designer.

“I just took out the crushed tissue fabric and draped it around her head, I asked for a table and just made Sridevi ji wear a pair of earrings. And that photo went into the Hall Of Fame for Rakesh Shrestha as the best photograph, and was also used as the magazine cover and also for Lux’s campaign, and the rest is history,” recalled Neeta Lulla.

The entire experience is a learning in itself. It’s so inspiring to know how we create history if just one person believes in us, and for Neeta Lulla, that person certainly was Sridevi. Neeta Lulla had a candid chat on The Male Feminist, and you can watch the entire episode here-
