Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar received a lot of backlash for slamming the students involved in the NEET-UG leak protest for using “foul language” against the Prime Minister. After she uploaded the video, many called her out for her “selective outrage” and asked her to also speak about the women who were harassed during the same. Dia Mirza took to her Instagram and commented on a post calling out Bhumi Pednekar for her video. In her comment, Mirza mentioned that the focus must not shift from the issue and even asked public figures speaking about foul language to address the police brutality that happened on July 20. She also spoke about the online abuse and doxxing of young girls for expressing their opinions and the filings of FIRs against minor girls. The actor stated that such actions do not contribute to a better society.
In her viral video, Bhumi spoke about the CJP protests against the NEET-UG paper leak and condemned the use of abusive language against PM Narendra Modi. She stated that this was not our culture and that this was not how one spoke about someone who held the highest office in land. Pednekar further questioned if one would speak the same way to someone elder in their home and stressed that letting go of our principles only hindered progress. Her video was met by a lot of criticism from the fans for her “Selective outrage.”
