A woman goes on a holiday with her husband, wears a bikini, and thousands of paparazzi pictures emerge the next day. Within hours, strangers on the internet are zooming into her stomach and analysing her body from every angle for a possible pregnancy, while we mind you, it is none of their business. Something similar happened to F1 racer Charles Leclerc and his wife, Alexandra Saint Mleux, after they took a sun-soaked holiday in St Tropez.
About Charles Leclerc, Alexandra Saint Mleux
For the unversed, pictures of F1 racer Charles Leclerc and his wife, Alexandra Saint Mleux, relaxing on a yacht and swimming in the sea recently went viral on social media. The two were seen spending time on their Mediterranean holiday, while the attention quickly shifted to the model’s body. Many began pointing out that Alexandra might be pregnant, pointing to her “bloated stomach” as evidence in the viral pics. Soon, this became a huge topic of discussion about whether the couple could be expecting their first child together.

Perhaps she is pregnant, perhaps she isn’t. Perhaps this isn’t any of our business. The problem is that we seem to have believed that a woman’s body is public property, which can be dissected. A slightly rounded stomach? Pregnancy. A loose-fitted dress? Pregnancy. Bloating? Pregnancy. The internet has become so obsessed with spotting baby bumps that it has become creepy. This is where serious mental health problems like body image issues and insecurities stem from, and it is highly problematic.

However, this isn’t a new phenomenon. Female celebs have often found themselves at the centre of pregnancy rumours simply because their bodies looked different on a particular day. The underlying message is troubling: women are not allowed to gain weight, experience bloating, or look anything less than perfect because it can start a rumour. We must do better as a society.
