‘Bhediya’ Song ‘Thumkeshwari’: Our Ears Need Bima After Listening To These Excruciating Lyrics. What Is With That Cringy Hookstep?

‘Bhediya’ Song ‘Thumkeshwari’: Our Ears Need Bima After Listening To These Excruciating Lyrics. What Is With That Cringy Hookstep?

I think it is the era of bad songs in Bollywood right now. My ears are desperately waiting to hear a nice song from the Hindi film industry and it feels like it has been 84 years since I heard one. Every time a new movie releases, it might either have a remake of a classic old song or on those rare occasions, where there might be an original track in it, it might be super cringy. Well, to add another to the list of the latter, is the brand new song from the fantasy horror-thriller Bhediya. The track is titled ‘Thumkeshwari’ and is sung by Sachin-Jigar, Rashmeet Kaur and Ash King. The lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the music is composed by Sachin-Jigar, too.

The opening scene of the track itself made me go ‘hain?’ How can a man slip from a cliff, come out the other side from a waterfall and fall right in front of an apsara-kind of looking woman? And then follows the typical male gaze with the camera panning to Kriti Sanon’s waist. *sigh* ‘Thumkeshawari’ got worse right from the moment it started.

I cringed and literally looked away from my laptop screen when Kriti performed the hook step of the song. What even was that? I am more surprised that Ganesh Acharya, the man who choreographed hit tracks like ‘Khali Bali’ from Padmavat and ‘Beedi Jalaile’ from Omkara, choreographed this. What range he has displayed! Varun Dhawan looked like he was squeezing water out of Kriti Sanon’s dupatta while she just stood next to him swaying her kamar.

Now, now, coming to the lyrics of the song, they are absolutely crap as well. It is all but a compilation of repeatedly singing rhyming words. Zero creativity there. There was this one particular line in the song that made me want to smash my laptop against the wall. The line went, “Tere har ek thumke ka bima karun mai!” TF does that even mean? Thumke ka chodo, we might have to get the bima of our ears done after listening to this track.

I thought that Varun and Kriti’s chemistry would be the saving grace of this song. But no. That had to be ruined as well. Kriti kept looking at Varun like he is some lost kid holding on to her pallu while his parents come to take him. All through the three minutes and 12-seconds of the song, I have said ‘eww’, crap’ and ‘ewwwww’ at every scene.

Plus, at the end of the track, Shraddha Kapoor makes an appearance, too. She dances with Varun for barely five seconds and then, she too walks away.

What is with the makers, yaar? It feels like there have stopped putting in effort entirely to make a song for Hindi films. We, as an audience, deserve better than this! Bhediya will hit theatres on November 25, 2022.
