‘Dil De Diya Hai’ From ‘Thank God’ Rehashes A Classic Song And Leaves Us Wondering, “Why God?” Original Gaana Banaao Na!

If we talk about content in Bollywood movies, the progress has been slow, but there at least has been some. With the evolving taste of the audience, Bollywood has been acknowledging its demands and choices when it comes to content. But you cannot say the same for the music that this industry is producing lately. Repeatedly, we are being served with the same old songs with just a change in their presentation. Old songs mein modern tadka has been the latest recipe of cooking music in the Bollywood industry and it’s high time they realise that the audience is not even keen on tasting this. And trust me here, we are not short of examples here, the very recent one being ‘Dil De Diya Hai’ from the movie Thank God, featuring Ajay Devgan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet Singh. The song has been sung by Anand Raaj Anand, who was the original singer of the song too, and the music has been produced by Rochak Kohli. I ask, what was the need to reproduce an OG song again? That too in this movie particularly, both the songs till now are remakes!

Well, this is the second song that has been released from the movie Thank God and disappointed us the second time straight, it also did not turn out to be anything original. The first song ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ was a remake of the original Sri Lankan version sung by Yohani. When a song has already been released and people have showered it with all the love, what makes it necessary or even relevant to produce it again by just tweaking the background music of the song?

The same controversy also happened with the ‘Payal Hai Chankai’ song when a more remixed version of the 90’s song was created by Neha Kakkar. Of course, there are feelings involved and the makers of such songs should not ignore that. If taken from the listener’s perspective, music becomes more than just a mix of lyrics and music, rather there is a certain emotion involved with every other song, and it is not really acceptable to just break that memorable music. This applies to ‘Dil De Diya Hai’ too, whose original was from the movie Masti.

But, where does the real problem arise? Why is Bollywood not coming up with original tracks lately? Are they denoting that there is no real talent left in our country who can bring some originality to the music industry? Because this clearly cannot be justified. In the world of social media, we are not really unknown of all the creativity that exists in the country. There are so many creators on social media who are actually producing great music on this medium. In fact, they are penning down lyrics that are going popular and viral in the social media world, so we are definitely not running out of talent.

Many times, these remakes are actually liked by the listeners, so has Bollywood decided to just use this theory on every other song that has been hit during their time? Because that’s certainly not what most of us want, to be very honest. The rarity of good, memorable original tracks now in Bollywood is so that not one is crossing my mind currently. In fact, most of us now have started appreciating all the older songs that have existed, and all thanks to the latest releases. Most of us are so tired of these recreated versions, that the moment we know it’s a remake, we refrain ourselves from even listening to it.

TBH, till now there has not been a clear reason given by the industry as to why they keep choosing to remake songs, instead of creating something new. And talking about the movie Thank God, the makers are making sure we are not served with anything new.
