The Government Of India introduced the awards in 1969 first to recognise talents from the Indian film industry. The Dada Saheb Phalke Awards are rolled out every year to honour amazing films, performances, directors and more. And each year, a special mention to an actor or actress is given for their exceptional contribution to Indian cinema and this year, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2020 will be given to the yesteryear star and beauty, Asha Parekh!

As per reports, Ankur Singh Thakur, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, announced that veteran actress Asha Parekh will be receiving the Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2020. The jury who collectively arrived at this decision included Asha Bhosle, Udit Narayan, Poonam Dhillon, Hema Malini and TS Nagabharana.

Asha Parekh began working when she was just a child and went on to bag the leading lady’s part in the film Dil Deke Dekho in 1959. She starred opposite Shammi Kapoor in the movie, and their jodi was an instant hit among the audience! Some of her most popular movies are Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai which was released in 1961, Do Badan which was released in 166, Kati Patang in 1970, and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki in 1978. Her last known film is the 1994 movie Ghar Ki Izzat. Asha Parekh was also one of the highest-earning actresses of her time!
