Sudha Kongara Prasad Dedicates ‘Soorarai Pottru’s National Award Win To Her Dad

July 22 was a big day for the Indian film industry. Why? Because it was the day when the prestigious National Film Awards were announced in Delhi. But there were a few people for whom this night was bigger than others – and those were the cast and the crew of Soorarai Pottru. How do I know that? Well, cause the Tamil film bagged the most awards – including the Best Feature Film. Even the leads of the movie – Suriya and Aparna Balamurali – both won the Best Actor and Actress awards respectively. Another win that the movie had was when Sudha Kongara Prasad and Shalini Usha Nair bagged the Best Screenplay. And now, after a few days, the director of Soorarai Pottru, Sudha Kongara Prasad, took to social media to share a heartfelt note wherein she dedicated her big National Award to her father.

Sudha Kongara took to her social media to dedicate her National Award win for Soorarai Pottru to her dad. She reveals how the movie starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali started with her dad passing away. She also adds there’s a scene in the movie that resembles the last interaction she had with her father.

The director wrote, “The journey of his film started with my dad passing away. The last image of my father that I carry is of him gesturing to me from his bed to come to him as I stood in the doorway. I went back and added this as a scene in Soorari Pottru. As film makers I guess most of us are finally just greedy voyeurs looking for those moments in our lives to put into our films.” Sudha Kongara further expressed how grateful she was for her dad and the moments she has created with him that she has added to the movie.

However, Sudha Kongara Prasad also said that she only has one regret her father is not there to see Soorarai Pottru winning all these awards. She goes on to thank “Mani sir” without her she is nothing. She then thanks Captain Gopinath on whom the movie is made and Suriya the one who has portrayed him on the screen.
