‘And Just Like That’ Trailer Is Finally Here And I Can’t Help But Scream In Excitement

And Just like that, we’re all set to dive into the world of Sex and the City in its all-new avatar. Almost two decades later, taking us on a fun ride this time is Carrie (Sara Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) with no traces of sex goddess Samantha Jones played by Kim Cattrall (such a bummer). Navigating their lives from being 30 something to now in their 50s, the beautiful New York city seems to be a constant companion of the gals through the many seasons. Offering a glimpse of the madness with a pinch of nostalgia is what the nearly two-minute-long trailer promises to bring. And I am beyond thrilled and thankful to HBO Max for dropping in an early Christmas gift.

The 10-episode season will premier on HBO Max on December 9 with two episodes and will roll out weekly on Thursdays through February 3, 2022.

Having replayed the trailer over a hundred times, here are 5 thoughts I had while watching it.

Déjà vu

The shoes are still an obsession, Mr Big is back and how, New York is still as wild and beautiful and I am loving it all. Tackling and slaying their lives in their 50s, the trio celebrates friendship. Talking about the possibility of the characters that graced the OG Sex and the city, we are hoping for at least some of Carrie’s old flames to make a special appearance and there’s a slight chance of Adian Shaw the hot furniture guy returning for a few episodes too (now that’s some good news). And as we talk about the leading men, David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino) and Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt) too will be a part of the next instalment of the popular name.

OH-SO-GOOD Fashion

The iconic “It’s a Baguette,” is back and the show is set to redefine the fashion dictionary. From the many looks that make a quick appearance in the trailer, making all the fashion buffs skip a beat. From hats being the show stopper in a series of clips, Carrie seems to have found a new obsession which is an official replacement for the iconic baguette. Making way for a white tulle teamed with a regular tote (loving the combination thou), pearls and of course a great variety of prints, with gender-neutral wardrobe doing a cameo, the ladies are back at it. All things said and done, I am just waiting to see the Falguni Shane and Peacock’s massive lehenga on Carrie and I can then die peacefully.

What’s new?

From the trio to the city that serves the same charm, what’s new for the SATC fans are the newcomers to the ensemble cast like Sarita Chaudhary seen mouthing lines like, “I’m just waiting for someone to create a dating site that’s called, here’s the man you’ve been searching for, Seema” and that’s what I too have been wanting to say for myself. Advocating inclusivity through the new set of characters, the reboot is joined by Sara Ramirez who identifies as nonbinary talking about all the right things as seen throughout the two minute-long clip. Furthermore, actor Cathy Ang will be seen playing Charlotte’s eldest daughter, Lily, who she and Harry adopted from China in the Sex and the City series finale.

The age talk

While only a handful amount of shows/movies in the recent past have successfully been able to pull off a narrative that keeps a woman in her 50s. The dramedy touches upon the many aspects that haunt the women of the particular age bracket through its characters. Taking life head-on, the top to toe well-dressed women will be seen reliving and screaming out loud that nothing is off the table even if you’re in your 50s.

The Sequel Problem

The only problem with curating a sequel to an extremely loved show like the Sex and the city is standing by the bar it has raised previously. While like in some cases when the sequel fails to justify the popularity of its name, Just Like That I hope will be able to serve well and feed the buzz it has created for the past several months (because I am way too excited for this one especially…).

Travelling from the year 1998 to the year 2021, the Darren Star creation is finally making an official comeback and you can catch the new episodes this December exclusively on HBO Max.
