From Alia Bhatt In ‘Brahmāstra’ To Anushka Sharma In ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, Here Are 5 Female Characters Who Could Have Been Better Explored

As a movie buff, I really like to watch films or series that do justice to the characters. It is difficult to ace the character development but I really appreciate it if there has been some because that really adds a deeper meaning to the movie. However, I have one major complaint from our Indian film industry they do not really focus much on this aspect while making movies. Especially, when it comes to the roles of the actresses. Most of the time, I end up with just this one question in my mind, what was the part of this actress in the movie? A similar idea struck me the other day when I watched the movie Brahmāstra. All I could think about was why Alia was given such a meaningless role in such an ambitious project. Then this made me think about other characters with which I had similar doubts. I strongly believe that these female leads in the movie could have had so much more to them only if their characters were given some attention.

Alia Bhatt In Brahmāstra

Alia Bhatt has proved herself as a mature actor with all her recent movies. It was really disappointing to see her role being boiled down to just a simple love interest of Ranbir Kapoor’s character Shiva. I mean we basically get to know nothing about her character in the movie except that she is a rich kid who has come down from the USA. In fact, even when Shiva and Alia’s character Isha shared conversations, Shiva was hardly interested in knowing about her life and where she comes from. It’s sad that Alia just got the opportunity to portray a childish character with no depth or character development whatsoever.

Anushka Sharma In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Okay, I did not really like this movie, however, it did show the life of a heartbroken girl in the form of Anushka’s character Alizeh. Here too, the entire highlight was given to Ranbir Kapoor’s character and his journey of overcoming the strong feelings he had for Alizeh. I mean the movie could have done so much more if we got to know what happened to Alizeh after she was ditched by her love, the character played by Fawad Khan. How did she end up as a cancer patient, and how did she deal with the heartbreaks and everything in between? I think we have still not come across heartbreak movies that have been strongly shown from a female’s perspective.

Rashmika Mandana In Pushpa

Another character left to being a love interest only. Pushpa was one of the latest movie that was highly talked about, yet all I could think about was another talent gone to waste. Rashmika Mandanna’s character as Srivalli is only there to calm down Pushpa. It lacked impact and even importance.

Asin Thottumkal In Ghajini

Ghajini was a movie with potential. However, the placement of Asin’s character as Kalpana in the movie still makes no sense to me. Why could the makers not try and add some development to her character too? She falls in love, helps, and dies for this one man she had no idea about. She is carved in our memories only as a girl who did not even know the truth about Aamir Khan’s character.

Madhuri Dixit In Kalank

A veteran actor like Madhuri Dixit with a depthless character in Kalank was one sad point in the movie among many. She is a great dancer, but if only a talented and experienced actor like her is remembered for the songs in the movie is not accepted.
