5 Bollywood Movies That Were Good But Still Promoted Some Messed Up Ideas. Wish They Could’ve Done It Differently!

5 Bollywood Movies That Were Good But Still Promoted Some Messed Up Ideas. Wish They Could’ve Done It Differently!

Bollywood is one of the greatest and most massive industries in the country which makes it a very sad occurrence when they choose to keep slugging backwards with the kinds of messages and ideas that they wish to put forward through their movies, just in the name of content. These movies send the audience into the past and they also tend to have a very tragic impact on the world by reiterating old and traditional views that make the country seem and act extremely orthodox and ‘backwards’.

5 Bollywood Movies That Give Wrong Messages To The Audience

1. Jug Jug Jeeyo

They keep trying to talk about divorce and the unrealistic expectations faced by couples after marriage, in the Indian society. But sadly, they end up dropping the baton when it comes to delivering that message and end the movie on a very toxic note with Anil Kapoor’s character suggesting that he can win Neetu Kapoor’s character over again- big mistake, Bollywood!

2. Good Newwz

Although a great movie that talks about IVF with nice comic timing, the movie keeps iterating wrong ancient Indian beliefs. ‘Apna khoon toh apna hota hai’ (our blood is our blood) is mentioned in the movie multiple times when the couples are asked why they don’t want to adopt instead of going for such an expensive procedure. Yes, I know it all works out in the end but let’s do away with these cliché dialogues, shall we?

3. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

The Bollywood movie had a good intention to bring awareness and increase support for the trans community. Ayushman Khurana’s character learns the lesson of inclusivity in the end after that he chooses to expose a woman who goes against all odds to change her biological gender. The transition of his character is reflective of how some sections of Indian society have overcome their ignorance and seen the light. That being said, I personally felt that Vaani’s character going back to him and dating him again is something that sat weirdly with me. She could’ve forgiven him, maybe remained friends. But had it been me, I wouldn’t ever be able to do something like this.

4. Heropanti 2

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character in the movie is a complete mess, along with being an absolute black mark in the face of the entire gay community. In order to make a pointless character interesting, they tried to add soo many different layers that it ended up making it worse. He brings back the clique gay representation that Bollywood has showcased over the years, sigh…Dear Bollywood, I really thought we were done with this!

5. Dangal

This movie was a grand success but I personally believed that the protagonist portrayed by Amir Khan tries to impose his dreams on his children. He wants to win a gold medal for the country to fulfil his pride. His daughters are stripped of their freedom of choice and are not given an opportunity to explore and choose the career that they want. They are rigorously exposed to heavy training as children, it seems to justify imposing heavy and painful restrictions on one’s children because the result has the potential to help them in some way. It somehow doesn’t sit right with me.

It’s about time that Bollywood realises the kind of impact that it has on the people who watch it from around the world and make necessary changes in the messages that it chooses to reflect to the audience. They have the power to influence the world and make it a better place for all of us. Probably should really get on that, shouldn’t they?
