Famous television star Rupali Ganguly has been received some backlash post her reaction to a video of a minor using abusive language against PM Narendra Modi. This comes after Bhumi Pednekar also received criticism for her “selective outrage.” And now, the Anupamaa star’s post has led to a debate over the language used during protests against the NEET-UG paper leak. Rupali Ganugly took to her X (Previously Twitter) account and stated that throwing insults at PM Narendra Modi must have “repercussions.” She further wished that the PM was a dictator, which is in reference to a criticism often coined online. Within moments, many users lashed out at this remark of hers, especially the dictator one. One user asked if she knew about Benito Mussolini and what he did to the people of Italy. While another made a reference to her old show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and said being a “Sanghi aunty” was “middle class.” On the other hand, one user schooled her for not speaking about the r*pe and death threats received by the 15-year-old girl and her future.
Another section of users questioned if she was going to have a career in politics and insinuated that she was in line for a “BJP ticket” just like actor turned politician Kangana Ranaut. For the unversed, the debate is about an incident from the student-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar which drew attention to a 15-year-old girl who was criticised for using “foul language” against PM Modi. After much backlash, the girl made another video apologising for the same, stating that she had gone to the protest with some friends after visiting the Connaught Place and was influenced by the people around her who were using abusive slogans too.
