Besharam Rang Row: Twitter Slams Journo For “Mrs Ranveer Singh” Jibe At Deepika Padukone

It's reeking of misogyny!
Besharam Rang Row: Twitter Slams Journo For “Mrs Ranveer Singh” Jibe At Deepika Padukone

If there’s one song that I’ve been listening to on repeat, it’s the latest song from Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan starrer film Pathaan, ‘Besharam Rang’. The ghazal-like lyrics paired with the upbeat music really has my heart and TBH, it’s one of the best Bollywood songs I’ve heard in a while but our country has its own issue with this song and Deepika’s look in the song. Apparently, Deepika’s look from the song has drawn flak for allegedly hurting “Hindu sentiments” as the actress wore a “vulgar” saffron bikini, a colour which is believed to be the colour of Hinduism. In line with the same thought, a journalist penned an infuriating article criticising the actress for her choice of clothing while questioning if the actress and the makers of Pathaan are “colour blind” since they have used saffron which is the “symbol of the nation”.

In response to the article, another journalist Rituparna Chatterjee took to Twitter to call out the senior journalist for his deeply misogynistic article and for calling Deepika Padukone “Mrs Ranveer Singh”. Sharing a screenshot of the article and quoting a sentence from it, the journalist slammed the senior writer for his “misogyny-laced writing” about an actress who is known to be one of the highest-paid actresses in India. She further called him out for using a patronising tone for the actress and calling her “Mrs Ranveer Singh” despite the actress being much more senior in the industry than her husband.

What’s shocking is that this senior journalist has claimed that Deepika Padukone is beautiful in a classic manner and is tall but she looks best when “wrapped in mystique” while adding that she does not have an oomph factor. He went on to compare her with Priyanka Chopra and claimed that DP “wants” to be like her. He further pointed out that one shouldn’t worry about the colour of her bikini but rather about the “objectification” of a beautiful woman while adding that while the actress is beautiful and talented but she cannot pull off a bikini look and even called her “Mrs Ranveer Singh”.

And it’s not just one Twitter user who is upset about it. Reacting to Rituparna Chatterjee’s tweet, several other users expressed their anger and slammed the journalist for writing a misogynistic article demeaning the actress and her work. Users have called the journalist’s opinion “awful” and questioned the misogyny and how one can judge an actress for wearing what she wants. Check out these reactions.

TBH, I think Deepika Padukone looks amazing in a bikini but more importantly, who are we to decide what a bikini body is supposed to look like and who and how can one carry a bikini? Also, TF is “Mrs Ranveer Singh” supposed to mean? Excuse me but the last time I checked she is DEEPIKA PADUKONE and she’s more than just someone’s wife. Not only is she a bigger star but she has also CHOSEN to not change her name. She is not just Mrs Ranveer Singh or Mrs Deepika Padukone or Mrs Deepika Ranveer Singh. She is Deepika Padukone, a woman with her own identity and who can choose how, when, where and what she wants to wear, including the colour, just BTW.
