From Remixes To Situationships, 20 Things We Don’t Want To See In 2023
Gotta leave 'em in 2022!

As 2023 inches closer, we’ve all taken the time and effort to list out all the things we want to see happen in this coming year. Most of you might have already made resolutions and goals that you hope to work on and achieve in 2023 but as we bid adieu to 2022, there are some things that we don’t want to carry with us to the upcoming year. These are things that we truly hope to leave behind and never see ever again. So, without further ado, take a look at this list of things we don’t want in 2023.
1. Situationships
The place between relationship and hook up AKA situationship is the bane of our existence. It’s when two people are hooking up without any labels but there’s more to their situation than just that, but because it’s not a relationship, it’s a situationship. It’s when you like someone but you can’t be upset with them if they don’t talk to you for hours or days because you’re not dating so there’s no obligation but when you’re together, it’s a complete relationship experience. Yep, we totally wanna leave this painful place between relationships and hookups behind in 2022.
2. Men Doing The Bare Minimum
For the longest time men have been doing the bare minimum and expecting a pat on the back for doing it but ab bas ho gaya yaar. It’s time we stop giving men brownie points for doing the bare minimum, it’s time to take things up a notch. We’re hoping 2023 comes with men doing a tad bit more than the bare minimum.
3. Men Deciding What Women Can And Cannot Do
In 2022, Roe vs Wade was overturned which led to women being stripped of their right to abortion in the US but here’s hoping that 2023 brings a ray of light. This year, we don’t want men to decide what we can and cannot do and this includes men deciding what women should and should not wear. And I’m not just talking about India. After the Karnatak Hijab Row, there has been the dress code implementation in Afghanistan and the Anti-Hijab protests in Iran after Mahasa Amini’s death.

4. Rapists Being Released
Bilkis Bano’s rapists were released from jail for “good behaviour” earlier this year but we hope no other rapist gets an early release for “good behaviour” or anything at all in 2023. This world does not need more men like that.
5. Hustle Culture Being Glorified
After the Covid-19 pandemic-induced lockdown, all of us felt overwhelmed and left behind in life and it’s no surprise that we all had to hustle to get where we are now. But here’s to hoping that we leave the toxic hustle culture behind in 2022 instead of promoting and glorifying it in 2023.
6. Body Image Issues Thanks To Beauty Trends
Beauty trends often tend to go overboard and lead to body image issues but in 2023, we hope beauty trends don’t make us feel insecure about our bodies.
7. Clothes On The Ramp That Are Unwearable
From designer duo Shivan and Narresh’s underboob flashing blouse to Diesel’s belt skirt, we really do not need fashion trends on the ramp that cannot be worn by regular people in the real world. Honestly, why are these outfits even being made if people can’t actually wear them? We don’t need such unrealistic fashion in 2023.

8. Women Making Lehengas Out Of Red Flags
For the longest time, women have ignored men who are fuckbois and man-babies and let the red flags fly but it’s time to leave this attitude of making a lehenga out of the red flags and marrying such men in 2022. From 2023 onwards, women need to start opening their eyes to see the red flags and not make a lehenga out of it and instead call men out on it.

9. Ignoring Mental Health
In 2023, we’re not going to continue ignoring mental health or allow it to be taboo. Go for therapy if you need it, girl. See a psychiatrist if you’re struggling with mental health because we’ve talked about it enough to not see it as a taboo.
10. Orgasm Gap And Virginity Culture
We must stop glorifying the lack of sexual pleasure for the sake of virginity culture. It’s okay to stay virgin if that’s what you want but there’s no need to glorify someone’s choice. Not your business. Also, up your game guys. Women are done with the orgasm gap and with all the sex toys we have at our disposal, if men don’t up their game and start reducing the orgasm gap in 2023, there’s going to have to become self-reliant like us ladies.
11. Women Being Set On Fire For Being A “Witch”
It’s like we all went in reverse in 2022 and made life tough for women as if it wasn’t tough already. This year has brought to light several cases of women being burnt after being tagged as “witches”. We’re in the 21st century and there are these people who use their illogical belief in witchcraft to kill women by burning them at the stake.
12. FGM Not Being Acknowledged
Female Genital mutilation (FGM) is real and it does happen in India but our government has always turned a blind eye to it and claimed that it does not exist. Earlier, the diplomatic mission of Costa Rica called India out after evaluating the Human Rights Records and asked the government not only to acknowledge the existence of this practice but also criminalise it and take steps to eradicate it. Here’s to hoping that 2023 will bring to light the realities of FGM in India.
13. Morality Policing And Censorship
Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan came under fire after the song ‘Besharam Rang’ was released because the actress was wearing an orange bikini for about 20 seconds in the song. And since the song was titled ‘Besharam Rang’, Indian politicians and extremists took offence and slammed it for hurting Hindu sentiments. But let’s be honest, this morality policing and unnecessary censorship were uncalled for and it’s too last season to be carried with us into 2023.
14. Pick-Me Behaviour
You know all those people who tend to behave in a way that isn’t true to themselves but instead embarrass themselves for approval from the other gender. This includes throwing your own gender under the bus and demeaning them in order to get approval and attention from the other gender.
15. More Covid-19
Just ahead of New Year’s Eve, there has been a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases and with the Covid appropriate behaviour and rules coming back in place, we don’t need any more Coronavirus in our lives yaar. Ab bas!
16. Gender Pay Gap
As per the World Economic Forum report, India was ranked 135 out of 146 countries in Global Gender Gap Index 2022. And the World Inequality Report 2022 stated that men in India earn 82% of the labour income whereas women earn 18%. And I think in 2023, it’s time we start letting the Gender pay gap evaporate, right?
17. #MeToo Accused Men Getting Away
The world has honestly ghosted all the women who came out with accusations against men during the #MeToo movement and what’s worse is that in 2022, we saw one such man get a second chance at revamping his image. But we don’t need these men getting away in 2023.

18. Men Raping Anything That Moves
From raping young girls to puppies to monitor lizards, it seems like no one is safe in our world thanks to men who have turned into beasts. But kab tak chalega ye? Where does this end? Well, here’s to hoping men stop raping anything that moves in 2023 and maybe become a little more humane.
19. Remixes And Remakes (CC: T-Series)
Ab bas bhi kar do, yaar. We just can’t take any more remake movies and remix songs. It’s time Bollywood gets a little more creative and starts paying artists to make something more original.
20. Fake News For Brand Promotions
If there’s one thing we despise more than celebs vacationing in the Maldives, it’s the fake news they use for PR stunts and marketing gimmicks. From Devoleena Bhattacharjee to Neha Kakkar to Malaika Arora to Anushka Sharma, someone needs to inform celebs that these gimmicks are old and rather annoying now.
Having said that, let’s bid adieu to 2022 and hope 2023 brings more hope and fresh beginnings.
