Heroine Chic, Underboob Blouses And More Worst Trends Of 2022

Trends have always been a driving force for how we create that bond with fashion. Headlining every look, and helping us experiment, trends remain an imperative part of the drill of dressing up. I mean, would you ever try that multi cut-out black dress if our Euphoria star Maddy wouldn’t have slayed in one? Trends, as they slide in our closets, are through television shows, fashion designers, iconic characters, or just the idea of revamping a good old style. And while there were a million trends that we loved this year, some had us questioning their existence. So, as we wrap up 2022, let’s take a look at the worst trends of the year.

Body Becoming A Trend

Do you remember when actress Kareena Kapoor Khan made size zero, a raging trend for her film Tashan, and that famous track “Chhaliya.” And soon girls obsessing over her washboard abs hit the gym to achieve that size. Well, I am all up for being healthy, but this obsession towards size, is sorry not even close to healthy. This year too, many fashion news portals endorsed the idea of heroin chic, saying “booty” is no more in trend. Since many from the Kardashian clan chose to squeeze themselves down for god know’s what joy. This weird obsession with a “slim and trim” body has been a years-long debate, especially in India. And making it a so-called trend is only pushing people to subscribe to the idea of achieving that size, which ladies isn’t okay.

The Return Of Fishnets

The return of fishnets was visible and partially celebrated around the globe and on fashion runways. An updated version of this slinky, see-through fabric saw embellished rhinestone designs, face coverups, and patches stitched to tops. And while we already hated the trend, since its first appearance in the world of fashion, the return had us even more annoyed.

Low Rise Pants

90s’ beloved low-rise pants were already the reason behind many headaches, and its return in the year 2022 was like living a nightmare. Besides the look of this silhouette, what most wearers hate about this trend is the idea of supporting uncomfortable fashion. Many celebrities like Kim Kardashian, and Deepika Padukone tested the low-rise style this year, but even they couldn’t make us fall for this trend. Please someone burn ’em all pants.

Retire Thy Capes

The godly, whimsical capes returned this year in every form and shape. From Indian ethnic to red carpet dressing, capes sat on many celebrity shoulders. This trend from the 1300s returned this year again. This time around, capes returned on the runway by Celine and were seen embellished with feathers, and chikankari work by designers, closer to home. The idea of styling a look with a cape-style dupatta and cape-sleeves was also loved by mother-to-be Alia Bhatt, and Sonam Kapoor. What makes capes a rather boring trend is their less edgy look, which fails to define the silhouette of the actual attire. The shapeless capes were as whimsical as they looked but were tagged as one of the most boring trends to return this season.

The Underboob Flash

Infinity-cut blouses and tops already made celebrities obsess over them, but the idea of flashing thy underboob became a trend on runways this year. After enjoying a low phase in 2017, crop tops, and flashing underboobs became a celebrated trend, and spoke discomfort through pictures. The trend crawled down to the runway presentations by Indian designers as well, as experimented by designer duo Shivan and Narresh in the Indian-ethnic category.

Fake Freckles

This year, many faked freckles using henna pens, or a dusky liner in the name of aesthetics. The idea of faux freckles provided many with the illusion of a no makeup, makeup look. While we are all about owning your skin, fake freckles becoming a raging trend is problematic. And making a certain skin type, a trend, is absolutely not cool, as suggested by someone who actually suffers from it.

Print On Print

Prints in their best, most loud formats arrived in the year 2022, and celebrities at least tried one look using them. The idea of weaving a print-on-print look is not an easy task to ace. Walking on the thin line, the trend can make you look either tacky or chic. While some celebrities enjoyed every bit of this trend, others couldn’t simply pull it off.

Oversized Batman Sunglasses

All thanks to the Kardashian clan, oversized, batman sunglasses became a raging trend. From red carpets to award shows, especially Kim wore a pair of these black, oversized glasses to complete her Balenciaga catsuits. In most cases, her collection delivered a neat, chic look, but in others it made her look like a superhero, trying too hard to save the world.

The Hip Cut-Outs

While cut-outs became a serious obsession amongst the youth, its variation in the form of hip cut-outs, looked like a serious fashion faux pas. Arriving on the runways, were pants, skirts, and denim numbers, flaunting this unflattering, absurd cut, making the ensemble look simply incomplete. We hope for this trend to vanish away in 2023.

Disappearing Brows

The most popular makeup trend of the year was celebrities picking up the razor and shaving off their beautiful brows. And while you’d love to try this trend as described by Doja Cat or take a similar route by putting a thick layer of concealer on them like Kendall Jenner, experimenting with your brows for a temporary fad will make you regret it hard. Why? Because sis, it takes years to grow them back, so better put that razor away.
